Meet the Editor: Gee Asaam of Knotsvilla

Here at Matchology, we’re big advocates for the role that niche blogs play in a strong submission strategy, and how having a strong focus creates a loyal and engaged readership. That’s why we were excited to hear last year that one of the original publications in our portfolio, Knotsvilla, had decided to rebrand to exclusively feature weddings and styled shoots that take place in Canada. Since then, we’ve loved seeing the gorgeous work submitted by our Canadian Matchologists and featured on the blog. Today we’re chatting to Knotsvilla’s charismatic editor, Gee Assam, to find out a bit more about herself, her Canadian wedding blog, and what prompted this shift in focus.

THREE THINGS ABOUT YOU THAT WE SHOULD KNOW

I live in the greater Toronto area, but am originally from Nigeria
I’m a Christian
I’m a wife, and mother to a fiesty little one!

HOW DID YOU GET INTO BLOGGING AND WHAT HAVE BEEN THE HIGHLIGHTS BEEN SO FAR?

Right after planning my own wedding in 2012, I missed it so much! So I started a blog. Some highlights have been being able to give sound advice to brides and grooms about the wedding planning process, and also sharing the work of talented photographers for inspiration to those on their wedding planning journey.

LAST YEAR YOU CHANGED THE FOCUS OF KNOTSVILLA TO CANADIAN WEDDINGS ONLY. TELL US MORE ABOUT THIS CHANGE.

After I moved to Toronto from Chicago, I felt it was time to find a niche and cater to a specific group of people who I could relate to. Focusing on Canadian weddings sounded just right!

“Great photography, decor details and sound wedding planning advice.”

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A SUBMISSION?

Great photography, decor details and sound wedding planning advice from the couple to share with my readers and future couples planning their weddings.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST SUBMISSION TURNOFF?

Not enough details in attire, decor, etc. These are the kinds of images that resonate more with future couples searching for inspiration to plan their weddings, so they’re important to a feature.

APART FROM MATCHOLOGY, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOL?

I don’t have a favorite tool as such, but the most useful one is Pinterest, as we get most of our traffic from there!

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST BUSINESS CHALLENGE?

The ever changing social media landscape. It’s just so hard to keep up!
