Details. Couples clamor for them, so editors are always eager to share beautiful and unique details with their followers. In a world where we are constantly inundated with ideas and images, it is important to make sure you stand out from the crowd to give yourself the best chance of being featured. There are tons of details that editors fall for (and of course, each editor is different!), but here are five details that are big winners and that editors love to see in submissions. If you’re lucky enough have one of them in a real wedding, make sure you include them in your Matchology submission!
I mean, who doesn’t love a stunning wedding dress? Overall, we tend to be a female-centric industry and the wedding dress is one of the most anticipated wedding day details for many brides. So it is a no-brainer that a gorgeous gown will give an editor heart eyes! If your bride has a beautiful dress, be sure to get tons of great images from a variety of angles, with full body and detail shots, to really make the gown shine. If you are styling a shoot, chose a gown with unique features and don’t be afraid to contact independent or smaller designers to get something fresh and new.
Fun & Unique Backdrops
Having a custom backdrop, whether it be for the ceremony, the dessert table, or the sweetheart table, always gets editors excited. It is such a fun and personalized detail that can be a real statement piece to tie the whole event together. Work with your couple to see if you can come up with an easy option for adding in a dramatic backdrop for their day or be sure to include one in your styled shoot.
We all love a creative sign or cute quote! This is a great way for couples to personalize their day, which is exactly what editors want to see. The great thing about signage is there are hundreds of different ways you can use signs in weddings, so the options are only limited by your imagination. Some unique signs can make the difference in an acceptance email or an unfortunate rejection.
Aren’t we all suckers for an adorable animal? From a flower girl pup to the farm goat, a cute animal is an easy way to get an editor to say yes. If your couple is thinking of including a pet (even if just for some portraits), get ready to grab lots of great shots that everyone will love.
This one is my personal favorite. I love a good chair detail! From cute signs to floral garlands to flowing fabric, there are tons of ways to personalize the couple’s chairs to create a stand out detail.
